An 86-year-old man died this Wednesday early afternoon in Toulouse. He suffered smoke inhalation following the fire in his apartment.
The police filter the entrance to this peaceful residence located on Chemin Nicol in Toulouse. The funeral directors stop at the height of an official. “It’s in the corner building,” the agent explains, pointing to a pink building. A few minutes earlier, a man died in a fire. They come to collect his body.
“Everything happened around 2 p.m. I saw thick smoke coming out of a home located on the third floor of Block C. It is inhabited by two elderly people. The victim is the gentleman aged 86 years”, assures a witness who contacted La Dépêche du Midi.
A priori, the fire would have been caused by a candle left lit too long. At the beginning of the afternoon, the retiree returned to her home after being temporarily absent. Despite the flames and smoke, she rushed to the room of her husband, whose health was already very fragile. Her act of bravery, however, did not save her husband's life. This octogenarian would have inhaled too much smoke to survive.
His wife, very shocked, was evacuated by emergency services.
