Former Real Madrid player, Sami Khedira reacted to Rodri’s victory in the 2024 Ballon d’Or, a trophy awarded to the Spanish midfielder, to the detriment of Vinicius Junior. The ex-Germany international also provided advice to the Brazilian star to help him win this prestigious trophy in the future.

Vinicius Junior, big favorite to win the Ballon d’Or, saw Rodri win after an exceptional season marked by victory in the Champions League. The Brazilian striker, however, did not convince the voters, who preferred to reward the Manchester City player. This decision caused disappointment, particularly at Real Madrid, who believe that the trophy should have gone to their striker.

Sami Khedira, former Real Madrid midfielder, also reacted to Rodri’s coronation, which he considers deserved. According to him, the voters’ choice is explained by the impact of the Spanish midfielder within the City team. Khedira also gave his point of view on what could help Vinicius win the Ballon d’Or in the years to come.

“The 2024 Ballon d’Or? (Laughs) What a fascinating debate… I was a midfielder and I love Rodri’s game. When we see Manchester City without him, we realize how essential he is. During the European Championship, I saw several matches live, and I saw the way he manages the game. He highlights everyone. It’s impressive. As for Vinicius, he also deserves to be cited. He often changes the course of matches,” Khedira explained to Marca.

However, the former Germany international pointed out one aspect of Vinicius’ game which he believes could be improved. “When Madrid are in difficulty, they often give the ball to Vinicius, and he solves the problem. But I have to add a small downside: his attitude. He sometimes looks angry on the field. Cristiano Ronaldo was a bit like that when he was young, but he quickly evolved. If Vinicius wants to become like Messi, Zidane, Cristiano, or Xavi, he must learn to be a little more respectful towards his opponents and the referees. He must change that. But in terms of football, he is arguably number one,” Khedira added.

He concluded by believing that if Vinicius improved his attitude, he could win several Ballons d’Or. “I’m not a big fan of individual awards, but it seems Rodri and Vinicius have been the best this year. If Vini becomes more gentlemanly and takes on a leadership role, he could well win three or four Ballons d’Or,” he said.

Vinicius Junior will likely take note of this advice, hoping to take the next step in his career.
