Egypt handed the Israeli delegation to the negotiations in Cairo a list of 30 hostages who meet humanitarian criteria and who should be released during the first phase of the agreement currently being negotiated, the Lebanese newspaper reported Wednesday morning Al-Akhbaraffiliated with Hezbollah.
According to an Egyptian official cited by the newspaper, the meeting attended by the Israeli delegation focused on the formulation of a 60-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of 30 Israeli hostages. The hostages included in the list “meet established humanitarian criteria, including men over 50 and those with serious health problems.”
“The identity of other hostages to be released will be agreed between the parties during the ceasefire period – provided that Israel does not attack Gaza and Hamas does not attack Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip. Gaza,” the article continues. “It was also reported that the Israeli delegation is expected to provide its response to Egyptian officials, “based on the expectation that the ceasefire will come into effect late next week or early next week. After”.
On Tuesday, Shin Bet Chief Ronen Bar and IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi visited Cairo, where they met with senior Egyptian officials and discussed the deal negotiations with them as well as other burning questions. The visit came at a time when Israeli officials believe a deal with Hamas can be reached, although no progress has yet been made.
In recent days, discussions between Israel and mediators in negotiations for a deal with Hamas have intensified. However, the meetings of the Shin Bet chief and the chief of staff did not constitute a formal resumption of contacts for the hostage agreement and a ceasefire in Gaza. During these talks other issues arose such as the post-war issue in the Gaza Strip and security issues that require cooperation with Egypt.
