The cold has set up, and the consequences on gas reserves in Europe quickly made themselves felt. Because when temperatures drop, we consume more energy. The natural gas reserves in Europe (there are none in Switzerland) were still well filled a month ago, at a level higher than the past five years. But since then, they have been down. Now below this famous average over five years, according to the Gas Infrastructure Europe association.
Prices are on average at their highest level in one year. The megawatt hour of gas is around 50 euros currently, and it could climb to 70 euros, according to Bank of America. Before the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, it was worth less than 20 euros.
