– The captain had warned that the conditions could be difficult.
A trip that was nothing more ordinary… until landing. The passengers of flight AF 1674 between Lyon and Caen did not experience a smooth flight this Sunday, December 8, at least not in its entirety. Indeed, while the plane was going to land on the tarmac of Carpiquet airport at the end of the afternoon, the pilot suddenly went around again because significant gusts of wind shook the aircraft as it landed, reports France Blue Normandy. Pierre, a passenger, states that from the start of the flight, “the captain warned us that conditions could be difficult with a high risk of turbulence on approach to Caen”.
“Things didn’t go as planned. At the time of landing, there were very strong gusts of wind.says Pierre. “The plane was lurching from right to left. He was leaning. At one point, the wing was close to hitting the ground. It was a little moment of panic”adds the man, originally from Cherbourg. If he admits to having heard screams in the aircraft when the pilot went around, “strangely, everyone remained calm, perhaps paralyzed by fear”.

The plane landed 30 minutes later at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport
Facing these terrible weather conditionsthe captain made the decision not to attempt the approach again and headed towards Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport. The plane finally landed 30 minutes later. Passengers were immediately attended to upon arrival in the capital. “We had a packed lunch. A bus was chartered for us and we arrived at 11 p.m. in Caen.explains Pierre.
Despite a calm landing in Paris, the passengers had to remember this tumultuous landing which they will surely remember for a long time. “Frankly, I was surprised that the flight continued. We knew very well the severe storm conditions that existed in Caen. Why did we maintain the flight? It was very strange to keep him in those conditions”laments Pierre.
