OM had a meeting with AS Saint-Étienne, for their 14th match of the season. Roberto De Zerbi chose to line up the same team composition, with Quentin Merlin in place of Ulisses Garcia: Rulli – Murillo, Balerdi (c), Kondogbia – Henrique, Rongier, Højbjerg, Merlin – Greenwood, Maupay, Rabiot .

The Phocaeans quickly got their foot on the ball. It was Rulli who repelled the first Saint-Etienne offensive. The Argentinian deflected a shot from Davitachvili (3rd). Then Merlin responded with a nice dribble then a shot which, deflected, found the small net of Larsonneur's goal (10th). It was ultimately Rabiot who achieved the great Olympian domination. Found by Maupay, the midfielder controlled with his chest and turned on Larsonneur. The goal was initially disallowed for offside, before VAR corrected the error (1-017e).

Rabiot narrowly missed the double (20th), then Maupay lacked control of the ball as he headed for goal (22nd). Larsonneur diverted a shot from Merlin (27th), then another from Greenwood (30th). The Marseillais returned to the locker room with this goal in advance, and 71% possession of the ball.

Greenwood makes the break after a rejected penalty

The Phocaeans returned from the locker room with the same desire to dominate. Larsonneur intervened in front of Maupay, then diverted an attempt from Rabiot (48th). The referee whistled a penalty following a foul on Greenwood, after a good check. The Englishman saw his attempt rejected, but followed well and scored the second goal (2-064e). Cornelius and Wahi were the first to read about Rongier and Maupay.

Larsonneur released a new attempt from Greenwood (71st). Merlin gave way to Koum, for his first in L1 (80th). Magnificently served in one touch by Greenwood, Wahi narrowly missed his duel with Larsonneur. The Saint-Etienne goalkeeper touched the ball with his stomach, which was enough to send it for a corner (86th). Rowe and Brassier replaced Greenwood and Luis Henrique, while the match was stopped due to smoke bombs (89th). The referee whistled the end of the match with the score 2-0.

The Olympians won a third consecutive victory and regained 2nd position in the Ligue 1 standings from AS Monaco. A great series which brings confidence before the reception of , scheduled for next Saturday.
