Ludovic Bertin is sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Victorine Dartois, an 18-year-old student, strangled and drowned in 2020
Ludovic Bertin, 29, was sentenced to life imprisonment with 20 years of security for the murder of Victorine Dartois, 18, by the Isère Assize Court in Grenoble. Before the verdict, he apologized to the family, admitting to having “committed the irreparable”. Victorine's mother expressed her disappointment with the trial, judging the accused's regrets as “hollow”.
“A predator”
The attorney general had requested life imprisonment with 25 years of security, describing the accused as a “predator” having followed a “calculated scenario” in order to find a “prey to rape”, which Ludovic Bertin denies, although he admitted to the murder. In addition to this crime, he was also on trial for a rape committed two years earlier.
Victorine disappeared on September 26, 2020 in Villefontaine, near Lyon, while returning home after an outing with friends. His body was found two days later in a stream. The autopsy revealed that she had been strangled and drowned.
