In mid-flight, a British Airways Airbus A 380 was forced to turn around last night on Thursday, December 5, 2024. Three hours after taking off from London to reach Miami in Florida, the aircraft had to abandon to the rest of the flight and reach the departure airport, according to our colleagues at Airlivenet who reveal the information on their site and count X. The flight was then canceled.
This incident on this aircraft registered G-XLEC is not the first. Just a month ago, the same superjumbo suddenly changed course after four minutes of flight. He had also just taken off from London Heathrow to Miami, Florida.

The aircraft designed by the European manufacturer based in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) headed south towards the English Channel, where it probably spilled fuel over the sea. This aircraft was delivered in October 2013. At the end of August, it had accumulated 36,919 flight hours. During the pandemic, the aircraft benefited from several extended storage periods.
The A380 returned to commercial service on June 6, 2022. In recent weeks, it seems to have increased incidents. It already had to be taken out of service on October 13 and 31. The round trip to Los Angeles was also canceled on November 2.
The British company, which has 12 A380s in its fleet, seems to be suffering a series of damage to its aircraft and acknowledges “problems on its wide-body fleet”.
