Today, at the Royal Palace in Rabat, King Mohammed VI chaired a Council of Ministers, focused strongly on the 2030 World Cup that Morocco will co-organize with Spain and Portugal.

From the start of the meeting around the 2030 World Cup, Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance, responsible for the Budget, and president of the 2030 World Cup Committee, outlined the outlines careful preparations undertaken by Morocco as part of the joint candidacy with Spain and Portugal for the hosting of this world-class sporting event. The Minister spoke of the milestones already reached, since the announcement by King Mohammed VI himself, on March 14, 2023 in Kigali, of this tripartite candidacy.

King Mohammed VI, who personally participated in key moments of this process, had already proudly announced to the Moroccan people on October 4, 2023, that the decision of the FIFA Council to unanimously retain the Morocco- Spain-Portugal. This initial success triggered sustained mobilization within the various departmental working groups, certain public companies, as well as in local authorities.

In accordance with royal directives, an expanded committee will soon be set up. It will include not only government representatives but also civil society actors, Moroccans living abroad, and African experts. The aim is to strengthen coordination between all stakeholders for the successful completion of the numerous infrastructure projects underlying this application.

These projects include the modernization of stadiums, the expansion and renovation of the airports of the six host cities, the significant improvement of road infrastructure and urban transport networks. A vast training program will also be initiated in order to strengthen the skills of young Moroccans, thus supporting not only the sporting event, but also the future economic vitality of the country.

During his presentation, Minister Fouzi Lekjaa highlighted the potential of the 2030 World Cup, which goes beyond a simple sporting event. According to him, this event symbolizes a unique opportunity to strengthen Morocco’s economic growth, stimulate job creation, and enhance the tourism sector. But above all, it is a platform to promote universal values ​​such as peace, unity, and sustainable development.

Beyond the sporting aspect, the Council of Ministers, chaired by King Mohammed VI, also approved six important international conventions. Four of them are bilateral in nature, aiming to improve cooperative relations with different European countries, in areas ranging from the mutual recognition of driving licenses to criminal cooperation. The other two multilateral conventions relate to air safety and the creation of the Digital Cooperation Organization.
