Google Stadia closed its doors in 2023, but offered its users the possibility of transforming their controller to Bluetooth. However, there is little time left to make this conversion.
Stadia was the promise of Google-style cloud gaming, a promise that did not attract the support of players. It was quite natural that the service closed its doors on January 18, 2023, leaving behind many controllers solely dedicated to the platform. In order to avoid massive waste, Google has announced the possibility of transforming these controllers into classic Bluetooth devices. However, it will only be possible to do so until December 31, 2024.
To transform your Stadia controller, simply go to the page dedicated to the service. The service will ask you to verify that your controller has been successfully charged 30 minutes before proceeding with the update which will be carried out using a USB cable. Once this operation is completed, the installation can begin and your controller will become a classic Bluetooth controller. Note that this change is irreversible.
On its website, Google gives us some additional information following this change. The company says that the Stadia controller uses “low energy Bluetooth connections”, specifying that in this mode it will not be possible to access audio through the controller's 3.5mm port or through its port USB. On the other hand, if the controller is used in wired mode, it will be possible to connect a headset to the 3.5 mm port.
