The 2024 Piolets d'Or will be awarded to the following ascents: 'The Secret Line' on the north face of Tirich Mir in Pakistan by Kazuya Hiraide and Kenro Nakajima, 'Round Trip Ticket' on the north face of Jannu in Nepal by Matt Cornell, Jackson Marvell and Alan Rousseau, and “Tomorrow Is Another Day” on the north face of Flat Top in India by Hugo Béguin, Matthias Gribi and Nathan Monard. A special mention for women's mountaineering was awarded to the Italian Nives Meroi. Spanish mountaineer Jordi Corominas will receive the 16th Walter Bonatti – Piolets d’Or Lifetime Achievement Award.

This is the first time that the Piolets d'Or have been organized in the Dolomites, one of the main mountain ranges of the Alps and the world, notably for its endless climbing possibilities, but also for the special role played by the Dolomites. played in the development of classical mountaineering over the past 150 years. To name just a few, world-class climbers like Angelo Dibona, Reinhold Messner or famous climbers like Manolo were/are from the Dolomites. This vast massif with thousands of peaks – besides Pale di San Martino, Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Marmolada, Sassolungo, Catinaccio and Monte Civetta are probably the most famous – has attracted climbers and mountaineers from all over the world. In the evolution of the art of mountaineering, notable ascents in the Dolomites by figures such as Paul Preuss, Tita Piaz, Michele Bettega, Luigi Micheluzzi, Emilio Comici, Riccardo Cassin, Cesare Maestri, Armando Aste, Georges Livanos, Pierre Mazeaud and Lino Les Lacedelli have left their mark on the history of mountaineering.

Programme:
Sunday December 8
5:00 p.m. – Place La Crodaroi: Opening ceremony and welcome from local authorities to guests of the Piolets d’Or, with inauguration of a monument dedicated to the “Aquile” Alpine Guides of San Martino and Primiero.

9:00 p.m. – Congress Hall: “A brief history of alpine exploration in the Pale di San Martino” presented by mountain guide Narci Simion, former president of the “Aquile” Guides of San Martino and Primiero. Followed by the screening of the film “Pioneers”, the feat of alpine guide Peter Moser, who in 2021 reached six of the main peaks of the Pale di San Martino in a single day, following the routes traced by the first mountaineers of the Pale di San Martino. 1800s. Film produced by Aku in collaboration with the “Aquile” Alpine Guides.

Monday December 9
2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.: Opportunity for guests to meet the climbers named Piolets d’Or at the Refuge Rosette.
Afternoon – Event base camp at the sports hall
Climbing demonstration with local alpine guides.
3:30 p.m.: Presentation of the AKU “Ice Memory” project.
5:00 p.m.: Presentation of “The Dolomites as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and mountaineering as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” by the Dolomites UNESCO Foundation. Moderated by Luca Calvi (translator and mountaineering expert) and Christian Trommsdorff (President of the Haute Montagne Group and organizer of the Piolets d'Or).
9:00 p.m.: “The spirit of mountaineering in the Dolomites”, an evening dedicated to the Dolomites with alpine guides Nicola Tondini and Alessandro Baù, hosted by Luca Calvi (translator and mountaineering expert).

Tuesday December 10
Afternoon – Event base camp at the sports hall
Climbing demonstration with local alpine guides.
2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.: Presentations from the Piolets d’Or nominated climbers on their respective climbs.
6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.: Aperitif buffet style. Advance reservation required here.
8:45 p.m.: Live broadcast on the big screen of the Piolets d'Or Gala Evening hosted by Luca Calvi (translator and mountaineering expert) and Christian Trommsdorff (President of the High Mountain Group and organizer of the Piolets d'Or). Free entry with prior registration here.
11:00 p.m.: Piolets d’Or After Party with aperitif and DJ set. FREE ENTRANCE.
