PROTECTION. With the departure of Patrick Giguère next January as director of the Fire Safety Service, the Municipality of Waterville has made the decision to enter into an agreement to share this resource with Compton.
“In a context where the requirements and responsibilities linked to the position of management of the Fire Safety Service are constantly increasing, elected officials turned to the neighboring city, with which it already has mutual aid and use agreements. “fire equipment, to reflect more broadly on the possibility of expanding this collaboration”, explain the leaders of Waterville in a press release.
The joint position will be occupied by Jonathan Garceau, currently director of the Compton fire department.
The association concluded aims to improve the time currently allocated to this resource by also making it available for Waterville, while ensuring equitable distribution of costs for each municipality. The agreement will also provide a broad vision in terms of equipment and resources in place to better meet the requirements imposed by the fire safety risk coverage plan.
“It was without too many surprises that we received the announcement from Patrick, who is ending his mandate as director after 14 years of service,” underlines the mayor of Waterville, Nathalie Dupuis. We are happy to keep him on the volunteer fire team. Our fire service relies on availability and the administrative aspect of the director is imposing. This represents a lot of sacrifice for anyone in such a position, on top of having another full-time job. In the long run, the choice imposes itself. We appreciated Patrick’s dedication to leading the service and we thank him. »
“This new intermunicipal agreement is the result of a great collaboration that already exists between Waterville and us,” says the mayor of Compton, Jean-Pierre Charuest. It consolidates the position of our director of the Fire Safety Service and ensures, for each of our respective municipalities, a shared vision that will be broader, finer and complementary to the mutual assistance agreements already in place, which, in terms of safety fire, is also a win for our citizens. »
For his part, the new director of the Compton and Waterville fire services, Jonathan Garceau, says he is very happy with this new opportunity. “This field being in a period of great change, it therefore goes without saying that municipalities come together in order to further share their resources and meet the increasingly demanding and varied requirements of the Ministry of Public Security. All this while offering an optimal level of service to citizens and ensuring that the dynamism, professionalism, team spirit and well-being of the resources in place in the Fire Safety Service are consolidated. »
