Wearing their most beautiful skates, twenty-four Ukrainian artists will be present in Mende on Friday December 20, 2024, for two unique ice performances at the municipal theater.
After Moscow on Ice, this time it is the Ukrainian Circus on Ice which will arrive for the first time in Mende, on Friday December 20, 2024. It is produced by the Zik association in Mazenk which is carrying out the project in collaboration with the Mendois festival committee. Two frosty performances will take place at the municipal theater: the first at 5:45 p.m., and the second at 8:45 p.m. This will be the last date of the French tour, before leaving for Germany the next day. The tour started on November 28.
Synthetic track
Twenty-four artists will perform on a synthetic track installed at the theater for the occasion, accompanied by ten technicians. For this date, it will be the same format as for all the others on the tour, despite the smallness of the city and the configuration of the room which welcomes them. The municipal theater can allow it and, for the other shows produced by Zik in Mazenk in Mende, “it has always been complete, says Marie-Laurence Blésès, the director of the tour. That's why that we come back every time.”
The association has already produced other shows here, such as the Moscow Ice Circus. The director explains that in Mende, the shows are always very successful. This is how she decided to return to the region as soon as possible. “For the next two sessions, the room is already three-quarters full.” If the theater is full by then, that will be about 1,600 people.
Traditional music and costumes
The artists who will perform the show belong to the National Circus of Ukraine. After a demonstration in Budapest in front of the association, the ice show has been relocated to France since last year, and to other European countries. “There is traditional music and costumes, but it is a show that mixes traditions and contemporary music. The goal of a circus show is to change the universe. Each number has its music and its specificity “The spectators don't have time to get tired.”explains the director.
At the Ukrainian ice circus, all the acts are done on skates, of course. The speed and danger are therefore increased; guaranteed show! Between juggling, skipping rope or even stilts on skates, suffice to say that the artists are not afraid. Without forgetting the clown. Or rather, the clown! “Our clown is a lady, it’s quite rare. Her name is Julia.”
