“The snow should be abundant in the mountains”: what Météo France predicts in the country, from Sunday

After initially announcing a disrupted weekend in the country, Météo has again planned ahead. And mentioned the arrival of “winter weather” from Sunday… with a snowy episode?

A disrupted weekend… or even (really) wintery? In a bulletin published Wednesday December 4, 2024, Météo France speaks of a clear cooling of temperatures starting Sunday.

Arrival of a “polar air mass”

In their remarks, the meteorologists explain that “winter” weather will set in on the country from December 8, 2024. “Temperatures drop with the arrival of a polar air mass“, they write. Very concretely, this will result in a “time under the influence of a descent moderately cold maritime polar air“And so, unsurprisingly, in temperatures that go “fall and thus return below seasonal norms.

Morning frosts, snow in the mountains…

Still according to Météo France, morning frosts could punctuate the first hours of the day on the plainmore “without notable intensity”. As for the maximums, they will range from 2 to 10°C, “generally from the north-east to the south-west, locally a little closer to the Mediterranean”.

The excellent news, however, concerns snow sports enthusiasts. The bulletin in fact speaks of snow which should be “abundant” in the mountains, and will also fall at “low altitude”. Forecasters are counting on the presence of a “thick white coat” over all the massifs, as the Christmas holidays approach.

A lasting cold?

Concerning the duration of this episode, Météo France indicates that the descent of maritime polar air, described as “moderately cold”, is set to “persist a large part next week.”
