Following the serious fire that occurred on the night of November 27 to 28, 2024, having destroyed six essential trucks from the Nîmes Food Bank, the City of Nîmes is providing its support.
The Municipal Social Action Center (CCAS) will offer an exceptional grant of 10,000 euros to help the association overcome this crisis.
A deliberation will be put to a vote at the next CCAS Board of Directors, on December 16, 2024. This act symbolizes the municipality's commitment to an association whose role is crucial for the most vulnerable populations.
The disaster, which occurred on the site of Nîmes station marketcaused major material losses for the Food Bank, which uses these vehicles to transport food to beneficiaries.
Jean-Paul Fournier, Mayor of Nîmes, expressed his support:
“As soon as I learned of this terrible fire, I wanted to show the solidarity of the City of Nîmes to the Gard Food Bank and its President Joseph PRONESTI who do remarkable work in the department. Marie-Chantal BARBUSSE, Deputy Assistant for Social Action, visited the site. But beyond this moral support, to help the most deprived, I could not help financially this charitable association which helps certain people in Nîmes in particular. Also, I asked that exceptional aid could be studied quickly at the next CCAS Board of Directors. “.
