If you need to change your mobile or landline plan, the following should interest you. According to the latest price barometer carried out by the Ariase comparator, prices have reached very low levels compared to recent years. Let’s take stock.
The price war
In November, the average cost of an entry-level fiber optic internet offer stood at 28.51 euros, down 12.8% over one year. The trend is even more marked for the average monthly cost of an unlimited voice/SMS mobile plan with at least 10 GB of internet: 10.68%, a drop of 38.4% over one year.
Quoted by AFP and relayed by our colleagues Les EchosRomain Bonenfant, Director General of the French Telecoms Federation (FFT), comments as follows: “Overall, prices in Europe are still very low compared to prices in other regions of the world, particularly compared to the United States. And within Europe, France is particularly low on landlines and mobiles”.
In fact, Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom, and Free as well as their low-cost brands are constantly scrutinizing themselves and aligning themselves with the competition so as not to lose their customers and convince new entrants. This rivalry therefore seems to work in favor of consumers in the immediate future.
In addition, and, as the economic daily explains, the mobile and fixed market is stagnating in France and the growth in the number of subscriptions is very limited. In this context, the only way to prosper is to steal customers from other operators, which contributes to the price war we are witnessing.
The characteristics of the market also favor this type of strategy according to the experts cited by our colleagues. It is indeed increasingly simple to change your plan in France. At the same time, and once the networks are installed, new users do not generate a lot of additional costs.
The boom in low-cost packages
These latest readings confirm a trend that we have already been observing for several months. Last summer, we returned to Ariase’s accounts, which indicated a drop in the prices of mobile plans had in fact fallen by 33.04% between July 2023 and July 2024. And even by more than 40% if we referred to the last 18 months.
These developments were explained by the arrival of unlimited plans for less than 5 euros per month, while 5G is now available via plans of less than 10 euros per month, whereas it was much more expensive a year ago. More information in our previous article here.
