As the Holidays approach, the Young Farmers of Ardèche have imagined a joyful and seasonal system to introduce the general public to all the aberrations they face on a daily basis in their activity.

Don't come looking for chocolates: the 24 boxes of this Advent calendar contain… a problem! As the end-of-year holidays approach, the Young Farmers of Ardèche have just launched the Advent Calendar of agricultural aberrations on social networks.
From December 1 to 24, on Facebook and Instagram, the box of the day draws attention to an absurd or incoherent situation that farmers encounter in their daily lives. Francine Sève, union leader of the Young Farmers of Ardèche, participated in the creation of this virtual calendar. “We had no trouble finding the 24 problems, there are so many in our profession! We simply collected testimonies from our members and these are problems that we all face.“.
It was the aberration in the detection of salmonella that got the ball rolling on December 1st. A detection which in France is done in poultry droppings and not directly in eggs, contrary to what is practiced in many other countries, including in Europe! This obviously complicates trade and puts French producers in difficulty.
The idea of this calendar is first of all to raise awareness (with mischief) the general public, to denounce regulatory, economic or administrative aberrations which weigh on farmers to encourage collective reflection.
The calendar format allows you to approach somewhat technical subjects in a concise and impactful way. Each publication presents a concrete situation experienced by farmers, accompanied by a clear explanation and an invitation to dialogue.
But the Young Farmers of Ardèche also address political decision-makers, hoping via their calendar raise their awareness directly about the problems and encourage them to act for fairer and more coherent agriculture.
After the detection of salmonella and wolf attacks on breeders' herds, the December 3 box will raise the crucial issue of water storage. For the rest, you must respect the protocol of the Advent calendar: each day has its own box…
