Four days after winning 2-1 against Nigeria, the French women's team faced the Spanish world champions this evening in a much tougher and contested match on the pitch at OGC Nice. But in the south of France, if the French proved that they had character, they above all showed their limits against a clearly superior team.
Spain above
From the start of the match, the Spaniards opened the scoring with the inevitable Bonmati, reigning Ballon d'Or (6th, 1-0). Shortly before the half-hour mark, Pina made the break for Spain (23rd, 2-0). A goal which had the gift of waking up the Blues, the girls of Bonadei reducing the score thanks to an own goal from Mendez (37th, 2-1). Returning from the locker room, a similar scenario occurred with a new Spanish achievement from Garcia Cordoba (60th, 3-1), before a further reduction in the score from Diani (71st, 3-2) then a final Spanish goal to put an end to the suspense thanks to Caldentey (81st, 4-2). The French team ultimately lost 4-2.
