Friday December 6, 2024, Diochon stadium of Rouen (Seine-Maritime) will rumble. A little more than usual. It’s very simple, for the first time in history, Rouen and Quevilly will face each other in the championship. And the meeting will be played behind closed doors.
There was indeed a precedent, but it was in the Coupe de France, during the Covid-19 pandemic and the two teams were not playing at the same level (Quevilly 1-0 victory).
“A lot of impatience” but…
The two clubs now play in the same stadium and at the same level (a unique case in France in the first three divisions). And the rivalry between the two teams, which does not really need to be demonstrated, seems very much alive. Besides, it was enough to see the communication from the red bottom club from August. Or the different exchanges on social networks, or even in the stands, with the different chants of supporters, to understand that yes, this December 6 is a little different.
The historic rivalry with the HACfor the FCR, even seems to take second place as tensions are so strong.
But perhaps too precisely for the taste of the boss of the FCR, Iwan Postel. “There is great impatience around this match. With great passion, he rejoices, for the supporters.” He now wants this match to be “ a Football party. A celebration. May this match truly be a great and beautiful celebration. This is where we are strongest,” he says to 76actu.
Does he fear excesses? Scuffles? Especially since FCR will host Lille in the Coupe de France two weeks later, and possible sanctions could be complicated for the club to manage.
“The more we do anything, the more we will delay our projects”
« Moi, I’m a big mouth. But always optimistic! We must not fall into the trap that some would like to set for us. This match should show that FCR supporters are at home in Diochon. » But he warns, “be careful, we have to be very far from hatred! Hatred has no place in my project. No violence, no anti-Semitism! They’re waiting for us around the corner. […] The more we do anything, the more we will delay our projects. »
In a word, the president of the FCR wants the “supporters, the ultras”, to concentrate on the FCR and forget QRM a little. “Let’s be intelligent, and let’s not give importance to clubs that don’t deserve it” (he still specifies that he will take a look at the visitor’s parking lot to see if QRM “manages to fill it”).
The prefecture issues an order and fears violence
Has he received instructions or advice from the football federation or state services? He assures us that no. But the prefecture still notes that it will pay some attention to the smooth running of the event. An order has also been issued.
“In general, state services remain very vigilant facing the meetings involving the Football Club de Rouen (FCR), which are classified as risky by the DNLH (National Division for the Fight against Hooliganism) given the numerous excesses and incidents noted. »
Violent behavior has no more place in FC Rouen matches than in those of other clubs. State services will ensure that nothing is missed.
Moreover, the prefecture recalls that violence committed “with regard to other supporters or the police”, forced the administration to ban nine FCR supporters from the stadium for six months.
The meeting between the FCR and Quevilly will therefore be no exception. The prefectural decree issued will allow aimportant safety feature of the national police “to protect supporters and ensure public safety around the stadium”.
200 QRM supporters expected
Supporters of both clubs have been warned. Especially since the prefect has contacted the French Football Federation (FFF), so that possible new incidents are “the subject of firm and immediate responses at each level”.
In the decree issued, we can note that it is “prohibited for any person claiming to be a supporter of the Quevilly Rouen Métropole club or behaving as such in an ostentatious manner from accessing the Robert-Diochon stadium in Petit- Quevilly and to drive or park on public roads” near the stadium if they do not hold a ticket.
In all, 200 Quevillais are expected for the match. The latter will arrive escorted by the police.
