New fight

A prior altercation took place on the evening of March 29, 2023, during which Jimmy Verniers allegedly suffered several violent blows from Francesco Polizzi. Jimmy Verniers went to the Huy police to file a complaint, but he was asked to appear again the next day.

During his return from the center of Huy to Wanze, Jimmy Verniers crossed paths with Francesco Polizzi and another protagonist. A new altercation took place at Porte des Aveugles, in the extension of rue Entre-Deux-Portes. Francesco Polizzi allegedly started a new fight, before being stabbed in the heart area. He collapsed in front of the Total service station located at the entrance to Avenue Reine Astrid and died following a significant hemorrhage.

The perpetrator of the stabbing was quickly identified and arrested a few hours later. Different versions were presented by the authors or witnesses of the scene. Jimmy Verniers, who hosted Francesco Polizzi since his release from prison, would contest homicidal intent.

The substitute Xavier Montiel-Corte will sit in the public prosecutor’s office during the assize court chaired by Olivier Warnon. The accused will be defended by Me Maxim Töller and Me Nicolas Fauchet. The interests of the civil parties will be defended by Me Kevin Nerrinck and Me Speranza Louisa Spadazzi. The trial is expected to last five days.

The trial will begin Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the constitution of the jury. The proceedings on the merits will begin on Monday, December 9 at 9 a.m. with the reading of the indictment.
