Sukthat Tangwiriyakul, acting governor of the authority, said heavy flooding in Songkhla, Satun, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat damaged more than 5 million rai (800,000 hectares) of rubber plantations.
The RAT estimates that farmers will not be able to exploit their rubber trees for another month and a half, resulting in a loss of income of around 20 billion baht. The estimate is based on the current price of latex at THB 65 per kilogram.
Sukthat Tangwiriyakul added that his agency will pay THB 3,000 in compensation to farmers who registered their farms with the RAT. The authority’s provincial offices also received an emergency fund of THB 100,000 each to distribute bags of essential goods to flood victims. – VNA
