The Descartes Foundation has just published a study on the penetration, in French public opinion, of foreign stories concerning the conflicts which are shaking our time. The sociologist Laurent Cordonier, author of this work, tested with 4,000 respondents, from a representative panel of the population, their sensitivity to the Hamas narrative on Israel, the Russian narrative on Ukraine and that of China. on Taiwan.

It emerges – and very fortunately – that the French have little adherence to the versions of history told by illiberal and authoritarian regimes. Concerning Russia, 67.6% of respondents said they “rather disagree” or “strongly disagree” with the statement that Putin's country had to attack Ukraine…
