Foie gras displays particularly low prices at the start of December 2024. How can we explain such promotions on a product that has become almost unaffordable for many French people in recent years?
Foie gras for the end of year celebrations at an attractive price. A brand sells foie gras 5% to 6% cheaper than last year. The products are less than 100 euros per kilo, with promotions which can, for example, reach -34% in its various stores. Some customers are taking advantage of this at the beginning of December to do their holiday shopping.
“We’re all going to throw ourselves at it.”quips a customer of the brand. “Whether it’s cheaper, it’s always that, on the market at the moment it’s 66 euros per kilo”comments a man who came to do his shopping. If prices fall after years of increases, it is because production is picking up again. It had collapsed by 40% in 6 years. Farms were decimated by the avian flu epidemic. “In terms of production, we have returned to normal years since last year”confirms Bertrand Issartier, producer of foie gras in Corrèze.
