FOOTBALL – Anguished scene on the Italian pitch. Edoardo Bove, young Fiorentina player, collapsed during a match against Inter Milan this Sunday, December 1, late in the afternoon. The 22-year-old footballer suddenly collapsed to the ground, for no apparent reason, causing astonishment throughout the stadium.
The incident happened shortly after the start of the match, around the 16th minute of play. As you can see in the images belowthe midfielder calmly placed himself between his teammates and opponents as the ball was about to be put into play. But after a few steps, he collapsed to the ground. He then appeared to have convulsions.

The player has regained consciousness and is breathing
After the footballer's discomfort, all the players and officials returned to the locker room. The match of the 14th day of Serie A could not resume. At the time of the incident, the two teams were tied 0-0. The Italian League then announced in a press release that the match was definitively stopped and would be rescheduled for “a date still undetermined”.
Meanwhile, Edoardo Bove was rushed to Careggi Hospital, close to Fiorentina's Artemio-Franchi stadium, where Fiorentina leaders, his coach, his father and the mayor of Florence joined him. The player regained consciousness, reports Sky Sport Italia, which specifies that at the start of the evening, he was breathing and his heart rate was also normal.
This unease has revived at Fiorentina the painful memory of the death of former captain Davide Astori in 2018, who died in his sleep at the age of 31 before a championship match against Udinese.
Last season, AS Rome Ivorian international Evan Ndicka, 25, suffered illness during the match against Udinese on April 14, 2024. He collapsed in the 70th minute while complaining of a sharp pain in the chest.
Roma, who finally won the match 2-1 replayed a few days later, explained that their player had suffered a collapsed lung, without any heart problem having been detected.
