On Wednesday, both NHL picks were winners. Remember that we predicted over 6.5 goals during the Montreal-Columbus match and over 2.5 shots for Sam Reinhart of the Panthers. Let’s keep the momentum going, shall we?
The first tip turns out to be one of my premium picks of the day. Keep in mind that these types of bets on winning teams and point totals have led to a solid 34-17 record so far this season (go to MJPicks.com to subscribe). If you take into account the odds of each bet, we got a nice return on investment of 25.9%.
PICK 1: Six-plus goals in Jets-Golden Knights game
Let’s take a look at the previous meetings between these two clubs. Over the last nine games between Winnipeg and Vegas, the “over” option has gone 7-2.
Both teams rely on great offensive power. Currently, Manitoba has scored the most goals in the entire league, while the Golden Knights aren’t far behind in fourth place.
On defense, the Jets were also rock solid. In fact, they have allowed the second fewest number of goals during the 2024-2025 season. Meanwhile, Vegas sits in the middle of the pack in this stat column.
In my opinion, a total of six goals announced is not enough, given the high attacking potential of each team. For this reason, I choose the “more than”.
PICK 2: Under 2.5 shots for Aleksander Barkov
I really like the chances of Aleksander Barkov totaling fewer than 2.5 shots on goal against Carolina.
The Hurricanes have given up the second-fewest shots in the NHL this season. Last year they finished in first place. In short, they know how to prevent other teams from attacking their net.
Let’s see what would have happened if we had bet on Barkov to get two or fewer shots in each of his 15 games this year. We would be 9-6.
Not only is this a good review, but the following key information should be considered. In five of the six lost bets, Barkov finished with exactly three shots. In other words, these were very close defeats.
This strengthens my confidence in this bet. I really like the odds of Barkov getting 0, 1, or 2 shots against Carolina’s strong defense.
