“If we could do this more often, that would be great. enthuses an inmate nicknamed “the ball”.

It allows you to share and mingle with people other than inmates and prison staff. It allows us to be in real life. We too could be a great basketball player when we come out.

On the edge of the field, the guards encourage the inmates.

This sporting event in a penitentiary establishment is the result of long-term work carried out between the staff of the structure and the ASC Tour team.

“The idea is to make the link between the inside and the outside, underlines Tété Mensah Assiakoley, director of the Rémire-Montjoly Prison Center. It’s also a way of diversifying sport in detention.”

This also helps to calm detention, fight against violence and give prisoners prospects for the outside world.

This match is a moment of cohesion. The behavior of the inmates was exemplary. Sport is also a tool for reintegration, and a helping hand from Frédéric Egalgi, the president, player and coach of ASC .

“We met a few detained players that we used to meet outside and who unfortunately find themselves here today, so it makes us happy to see them and they too are happy to see us again,” says Frédéric Egalgi.

Final score of the match 73 to 24 for the ASC Tour team. The detainees did more than resist.
