It is a little before midnight, Wednesday November 27, 2024, when the Gard firefighters were mobilized for a large-scale fire at the Nîmes market station. Around twenty firefighters were engaged to extinguish the flames which ravaged six refrigerated trucks from the Gard food bank.

Three cars and another heavy goods vehicle were also impacted, but no injuries were reported.

According to the president of the Gard Food Bank Joseph Pronesti, video surveillance cameras from a neighboring establishment made it possible to see an individual setting a fire to trucks. The possibility of arson is therefore being considered, confirms the communications department of the prosecution.

The food bank had just organized its large collection in supermarkets in Gard. Fortunately these trucks were empty, but the financial loss is still very significant.

An investigation was opened by the Nîmes public prosecutor's office.
