The alert was given at 3:52 p.m., Wednesday November 27, 2024. Firefighters were dispatched to the Val-d'Oise remand center (Mavo), in Osny, for a fire having burst into a cell. For some reason that remains unknown, a mattress had caught firewhich caused a significant release of smoke.
The fire was quickly extinguished by Mavo supervisors using a cocked fire valvefirst intervention equipment, supplied with water, for fighting the start of a fire. It can be used by all people, qualified or not, for at least 20 minutes while waiting for the fire brigade to arrive.
An inmate poisoned by smoke
The latter took charge of a inmate aged 61 having been poisoned by smoke. The latter was transported under escort and in relative urgency to the Pontoise hospital center in order to be examined.
Moreover, 27 other detainees had to be evacuated and kept safe in a room of the establishment while the firefighters intervened.
