The ceasefire that entered into force in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah on Wednesday comes after a resurgence of violence on the border since the Hamas attacks in Israel on October 7, 2023, and an open war for almost two months . But this truce will be difficult to apply and enforce.
They began returning to the south of the country on Wednesday November 27. Hours after the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect, thousands of Lebanese displaced by the war are hopeful of being able to return home. Two months of fierce fighting have pushed nearly a million people into exodus.
In the south of Lebanon, there have in fact been no more gunfire or shelling since three o'clock in the morning (French time), the start of the truce. Promoted by American President Joe Biden and accepted by the belligerents on Tuesday evening, this agreement provides for Hezbollah to withdraw north of the Litani River, around thirty kilometers from the border with the Jewish state, while the Israeli army has 60 days to leave southern Lebanon.
