Two civil servants from the same department of the City of Perpignan attempted suicide. An internal investigation as well as a psychological unit were launched.
Two Perpignan town hall agents attempted suicide in less than a week, at the end of November 2024. The two victims, whose lives are no longer in danger, both worked in the city's roads department.
According to our information, one of the civil servants was rescued thanks to the thoughtfulness of some of his colleagues who, not seeing him arrive, went to his home. After collecting the keys from a relative, they discovered the victim at home and called emergency services.
According to several sources, the official could, in the past, have met “professional difficulties”.
One of the two unfortunate people left a letter for his loved ones to explain his actions. Reasons which remain, for the moment, unclear. Still, the general director of services for the City of Perpignan, Philippe Mocellin, confirms to L'Indépendant that he “urgently launched a Health, Safety and Working Conditions Committee (CHSCT, now CSE, Editor's note).“This meeting, scheduled for December 13, 2024,”should shed light on the life of this service. If this proves necessary, I will take all measures to improve the organization of the service, or even hire additional staff. And this, as soon as possible, in the coming weeks. Adjustments which are also made regularly in all services.” A psychological unit has been set up at the Perpignan town hall.
The mayor of Perpignan, Louis Aliot, did not wish to speak.
