The Israeli security cabinet approved a ceasefire agreement with Lebanese Hezbollah this Tuesday evening, November 26.
More than a year after the start of the conflict with Lebanese Hezbollah, the Israeli security cabinet approved this Tuesday evening, November 26, a ceasefire agreement with the pro-Iranian movement. This ceasefire is due to come into force this Wednesday.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced late in the afternoon that he would present this agreement to the security cabinet for approval. At the same time, he clarified that the IDF “will respond” if Hezbollah violates the truce.
“In full agreement with the United States, we maintain complete freedom of military action” in Lebanon, he added. “If Hezbollah violates the agreement and tries to rearm, we will attack.”
Why is Israel attacking UNIFIL peacekeepers?
Massive Israeli raids on Beirut
The conflict between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah, which began on October 8, 2023 the day after the start of the war between the Jewish state and Hamas, reached a new stage with the Israeli bombings and the IDF invasion of Lebanon in the end of last September.
The UN and the international community have called in recent weeks for a ceasefire to be accepted. A Israeli strike targeted this Tuesday, November 26, a building housing displaced people in the heart of Beirutkilling at least three people, while violent raids target the suburbs of the capital, a Hezbollah stronghold, according to official media. The Israeli army announced on Tuesday that it observed ten projectile attacks against the national territory from Lebanon.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, at least 3,754 people have been killed in the country since October 2023, most since September this year.
