A young man from Andernos-les-Bains aged around 30 who disappeared on Monday November 25 owes his life to his neighbors. And, indirectly, to an article from “Sud Ouest” published Monday evening on our website sudouest.fr, which alerted them. The Andernosian, who lives between the swimming pool and the beach of Mauret, was actively sought. He had been seen entering the water of the Arcachon basin at the start of the afternoon not far from the town’s swimming pool, after undressing.
Police and firefighters searched for him Monday evening for hours, until nightfall, with men on the ground but also with the help of a helicopter and drones which had flown over the area for a long time. His relatives and the authorities were all the more worried because the water was at 13 degrees and a letter had been found, suggesting that the man may have wanted to end his life.
«A terrible crie»
It was finally by chance that he was found on Monday around 10:30 p.m. by a couple next to the house in which he lives, at his grandmother’s. “As I heard the helicopters all afternoon, I looked for news on the news, but there was nothing. In the evening, while typing on the Internet, I came across an article from ”Sud Ouest” announcing this disappearance. And when I read it, I understood from the small details that it was certainly my neighbor. I went to see his grandmother, who confirmed it to me,” explains Romain La Posta.
“She went out and heard a distant but terrible cry, carried by the wind”
“With my wife, Sophie Buisson, we were shocked. We said to ourselves that we would still look outside. She went out and heard a distant but terrible cry carried by the wind. She quickly warned me. I walked towards the sound and saw it, about 200 yards from shore, it was screaming. I stepped into the mud. He was lying there, in his underwear, in a state of severe hypothermia. I gave him some of my clothes. I shouted to alert. People who live in a nearby residence came and also lent me clothes. We rubbed it to warm it up. »
The firefighters then arrived quite quickly, as did the Smur, and transported him to hospital. His days are no longer in danger. “Without this article, I would have stayed on my sofa,” notes Romain La Posta.
