It was a meal deliveryman who raised the alarm at 6:20 a.m. This Tuesday, June 7, 2022, upon his arrival at the Forestou primary school, in the Guelmeur sector, he noticed smoke coming escaping from the establishment. The firefighters, quickly on the scene, put an end to the two outbreaks of fire, discovered in a classroom and the library.
The mayor of Brest, François Cuillandre, and Émilie Kuchel, his deputy in charge of local education policy, also went to the scene, where the voluntary origin of the disaster was quickly confirmed. Three computers and an envelope containing €160 were stolen. The establishment will remain closed for two days, following the disaster which will cause damage estimated at around €52,000.

This June 7, 2022, several DNA samples were taken by National Police investigators. And it was in September 2024 that one of them “matched” with an individual arrested by the National Police in another case. His DNA also coincides with a trace found on July 2, 2023, at the Jacquard school, in the upper part of the city. That night, a local resident saw two young men sneaking out of the establishment, a white briefcase in their hands. A few hours later, we discovered a broken glass door, and above all the disappearance of the proceeds from the school fair, organized the day before, i.e. around €8,000.
Summoned to the police station this Tuesday, November 26, 2024, the young 16-year-old suspect consented with detachment that he should actually be at the scene of the two incidents. But he said he didn't remember anything. Released in the evening, he is summoned before the children's judge on Friday February 28, 2025.
