A fire broke out early in the afternoon on Tuesday, July 2, near the Sigean African reserve in Aude. According to initial reports, approximately 3,000 m2 of vegetation went up in smoke. Around forty firefighters were dispatched to the scene.

A fire has been reported since early afternoon on Tuesday, July 2. The area burned around 2:30 p.m. was not very large, but a strong wind was recorded.

Significant resources were quickly deployed to the scene, the Aude firefighters told France 3 Occitanie early this afternoon for a fire in the town of Sigean. The fire is believed to have broken out between the A9 motorway and the D6009 road, near the African reserve.

According to initial reports, the fire has covered about 3,000 meters of vegetation. About 40 firefighters were deployed to the scene, supported by a dozen flame-fighting vehicles. Two helicopters were also called in as reinforcements.

Although the burnt area is not very large at the moment, firefighters are being cautious due to the Tramontane wind blowing over the region this afternoon. The strong northwest wind could make it more difficult to put out the flames.

A large plume of smoke is visible several kilometers away.
