At the end of the meeting between theTeam France and the Belgium
(1-0), Didier Deschampscoach of the Blues, returned to his team’s qualification.

We have teams against which they usually have a possession that is much superior. Today we made a lot of progress on that and the opponent obviously remains more cautious, even if the Belgian team on paper, was relatively offensive. But they had more withdrawn positions. On our side too, even if we did everything to score, attack and create opportunities. We created a lot more than Belgium but we were also intelligent and attentive, not to fall into the fact of leaving them the spaces they wanted. Especially in verticality, even if they had 2-3 opportunities I think. We have this capacity today to be able to control our matches a little more and to have the ball. Against the Netherlands it was even more. They are a team that generally dominates their opponents a lot on that. It is something that I appreciate, even if it does not win matches. It is better to have the ball, attack and force the opponent to defend, even if the Belgians did it well, whether it was with the attackers they had… The four in front, between Doku, Carrasco who was marking Théo Hernandez individually… We didn’t get caught in the trap, we also did what was necessary. The only regret is the number of shots we had. By trying to put too much power, it goes off target. But immense pride for what we did, to be in the quarter-finals again. I told you this a few times, after qualifying too, even if we are expected there I understand that, but we mustn’t trivialize. We must appreciate… Then I have Jules Koundé who you have cut out for me for two years and who is man of the match, Kolo, we don’t talk about him, who is a scorer… so everything is fine! Which shows that you always have to have a little restraint despite everything (smile).”
