The fire broke out Monday afternoon, around 2:15 p.m., in the building located at the corner of Iberville and Legendre Est streets. When the man was located inside his apartment, he was still alive, so he was transported to a hospital. He would have lost his life on the spot.

“According to the information found at the scene, everything suggests that it was an accidental fire,” explains SPVM spokesperson Marianne Allaire-Morin. However, several hypotheses as to the cause of the fire are still to be verified.” An investigation is being conducted by the SPVM’s arson division to determine the cause of the fire.

The flames, which only damaged the basement of the triplex, were quickly brought under control by firefighters. The other tenants of the accommodation were temporarily evacuated during the day.
