Professor Emeritus Francis Kwesi Nkrumahthe eldest son of the first President of the GhanaDr. Kwame Nkrumah, is no more.

The news was revealed by the editor, Vijay Prashad, on Sunday June 30, 2024 on his page deceased Sunday, June 30, 2024 at the age of 89.

On the Facebook network, a brother of Francis, Sékou Nkrumah, shared a photo showing Francis and him but without any caption. The publication aroused curiosity and messages of comfort for Sékou from certain Internet users.

As for Samia Nkrumah, the daughter of Ghana’s first President, she posted that “Yesterday we lost our elder brother, Prof. Francis Nkrumah. Francis lived a full life and served the Ghana and Africa with distinction. Our father would be proud of him. Our love and thoughts are with his wife, Margaret and his daughters Nana, Nyaneba and Mansa.”

According to an early tribute, we learn that Francis Nkrumah spent his life as a pediatrician, much appreciated by his patients. He remained at Ghana after the coup against his father and continued to work as a doctor and scientist.

Francis Nkrumah later became a prominent figure in the medical world of Ghanaas former director of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR).

He was highly regarded for his contribution to the eradication of polio in Africa and for his central role in the creation of the Pediatric Association of Ghana and the West African College of Physicians.
