A major fire broke out in a home in the town center of Fougères (Ille-et-Vilaine), Monday 1is July 2024. The firefighters were called around 5:30 p.m. for a fire at 3, rue Albert-Durand, in a house located next to the medical center.
Smoke visible from afar
Thick smoke quickly rose above the neighborhood, as well as a strong smell of burning, perceptible in a large part of Fougères.
The firefighters deployed major resources to fight the fire: more than 40 firefighters went to the site to fight the flames. The large scale has been deployed.
The fire, the origin of which is unknown, spread to the attics of the adjoining houses. The priority of the emergency services was to prevent the flames from spreading.
“I saw flames”
The residents managed to escape on their own, like Ishak, a resident of the adjoining house, who explains that he managed to save part of his family. “I was resting and suddenly I saw flames from my room, assures the young man. I got my siblings out and called the fire department. I tried to put out the flames with a hose and basins of water, but it was impossible. »
Firefighters have urged local residents to stay indoors to avoid toxic fumes.
