A Boeing 737-400 operating for parcel delivery company DHL crashed into a house 1.3 km from the airport in the Lithuanian capital. One of the four crew members was killed.

A cargo plane linking Germany and Lithuania crashed this Monday morning, November 25, into a house near Vilnius airport, killing at least one person, firefighters said. “The plane was supposed to land at Vilnius airport and crashed a few kilometers from the airport”Renatas Pozela, head of the fire and rescue service, told the press, adding that one of the four crew members was found dead.

The aircraft, a Boeing 737-400, was operating for the parcel delivery company DHL and was operated by the airline SWIFT. He had taken off from Leipzig, Germany, before the plane crashed around 5:30 a.m. local time (4:30 a.m. BST), a spokesperson for the government's National Crisis Management Center said. Everyone in the house survived, he added. Police said at a news conference that 12 people had been evacuated from the home hit by the plane.

Emergency services said the plane hit the ground and slid at least 100 meters before crashing into the building, located about 1.3 km north of the airport's runway. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
