Official dinner

After the G7 in Hiroshima in Japan, Emmanuel Macron will make a stopover in Ulaanbaatar before returning to France. This Sunday evening, he will have dinner with Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, indicates the website of the French Embassy in Mongolia.

According to this body, the two Heads of State will discuss the issue of climate change, desertification, public security, the space sector, agriculture, tourism or even sport… a varied panel of subjects. Among them, not the least: to leave Mongolia an open door in the face of the constraints that the Russia to influence him.

For the Elysée, it is necessary “to loosen the constraint which is exerted on the neighbors of Russia and to open to them the choice of their options”. The geostrategic issue is capital to offer Mongolia the option of a collaboration more important with France.

For the researcher associated with the Foundation for Strategic Research, Antoine Maire, interviewed by Le Point: “Mongolia has always been caught in the crossfire, and even more so since the invasion of Ukraine”.

Its strategy is based on a triangulation of its relationships. Above all, it does not want to rush its powerful neighbours, in order to retain room for maneuver and benefit from trade.

The President will stay until May 22 in Mongolia, the time to visit the Genghis Khan National Museum, Mongol conqueror of the 13th century. The establishment will lend part of its collection to the History Museum from October 2023, for the duration of an exhibition.
