During the nights of November 17 to 18 and then from November 19 to 20 last week, the town experienced two fires. The first took place near a residential building on rue des Saules. The fire on a sofa caused damage to the building and smoke entered apartments. Residents had to be evacuated to avoid smoke poisoning and were rehoused. The Autour de Gaston association launched a call for donations, particularly for clothes for the children of a family who were unable to return to their apartment. The second fire last week concerned a car which was set on fire near the Parc de la Paderne. A nearby tree as well as an electrical pole were subjected to flames without, fortunately, catching fire.
While Laurent Soulié, elected opposition official in Tournefeuille, was invited by France Bleu Occitanie on Friday November 22, 2024 to talk about insecurity and drug trafficking migrating from Toulouse to the outskirts, the town hall of Tournefeuille did not issue any press release on these fires. The elected official mentions during this interview that “what is worrying is the feedback that people from Tournefeuillais give us in their neighborhood, with testimonies concerning this trafficking and incivility and sometimes forms of violence”. Monsieur highlights the actions put in place by the municipality arguing for a significant increase in the number of municipal police officers as well as an increase in the number of educators in the neighborhoods. The municipality has experienced significant population growth which must be accompanied by an increase in resources for the education and development of young people.
