Christmas trees: what impact does the weather have on sales?

The mild temperatures of recent weeks have had an impact on tree sales as the holiday season approaches.

“Yes the heat, it cools the world a lot” immediately affirms Félix St-Pierre Brière, salesman at the St-Pierre fir plantation. According to him, “it’s still quiet” in terms of tree sales even though they were put on sale last week. Decorations are more popular at the moment.

The popularity of artificial trees is also having an impact on sales of natural trees. However, for some people, purchasing a natural tree is a tradition. A customer met by Noovo Info said that it was a tradition for her and that she also appreciated the smell given off by the conifer.

For Charles Vaillancourt, owner of the Valfei product company and president of the Quebec Christmas tree producers association, there has been a “green wave” in favor of the natural tree since the pandemic. According to Mr. Vaillancourt, customers are buying trees earlier than before while the window for cutting the trees, packing them and loading them is reduced by one week each year, the result of this change in habits on the part of the customers and also the temperature above normal.
