At the same time as the work on the Gailloncel footbridge, another long-awaited project started on Tuesday November 12, 2024. The Sodeka company was commissioned by the Gueudet group to carry out the demolition of the building of the former Renault garage in Gaillon (Eure), set on fire during the riots parties of the Verte-Bonne on the night of June 29 to 30, 2023.
A year and three months later, this project aims to erase “this ugly scar in the middle of the city entrance and to turn the page”, indicates Mickaël Hondierdirector of the Gueudet dealerships in Vernon and Louviers. “This should make Gaillon look better than this pile of sheet metal. »
A project that will last a month
During this work, which will last a month, the company will clear out the carcasses of the cars burned during the disaster, as well as the rubble of the building.
“This fire was a real disaster for us. We had a dead loss. We had just made very significant investments to modernize the dealership…” recalls the director of the site which reopened in 2022.
The garage will not reopen
Reluctantly, the Gueudet group made the decision not to reopen the Gaillonnais garage.
“In the current automobile context, this is not possible, especially since we have two dealerships located 15 minutes from Gaillon between Saint-Marcel and Louviers. We are sorry for our customers who appreciated the proximity of our garage”
He specifies that the 6 employees of the Gaillon branch have all been reclassified.
Decontamination and dismantling before sale?
Once the decontamination and dismantling of the site is completed, the Gueudet group will make a decision about the future of the land of the former garage. Land located at the entrance to the town, just opposite the Villa Verde residence whose construction is due to be completed soon, which already seems to be the object of desire by real estate developers.
