Apple is rolling out the iOS 18.1.1 update less than a month after iOS 18.1, and that's certainly no coincidence. This version brings crucial security fixes, after the discovery of vulnerabilities that could have been exploited. The company strongly recommends that all users perform this update immediately to ensure the safety of their devices.
To download the update, go to Settings > General > Update software, then press Update now and follow the on-screen instructions.
iOS 18.1.1 update fixes two vulnerabilities
The first concerns JavaScriptCorethe framework that allows the iPhone to execute JavaScript code. Apple explains that interacting with malicious web content could lead to the execution of arbitrary code, which gives an attacker the ability to execute commands on your device. And according to Okta, an IT services company, this type of vulnerability allows a third party to execute commands directly on your device.
The second problem concerns WebKitthe Safari browser engine. Apple has warned that interacting with malicious web content could lead to a cross-site scripting attack. This type of attack could expose sensitive information, such as cookies, to malicious actors.
Both security issues were flagged by researchers at Google's Threat Analysis Group. However, Apple has not provided additional details regarding these vulnerabilities.
