Around 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, a truck traveling south on Route 335, in the Auteuil sector of Laval, veered off its lane for a reason that is still unexplained and collided head-on with a car coming in the opposite direction.
The two vehicles caught fire following the impact, tells us agent Stéphanie Beshara, spokesperson for the Laval Police Service (SPL).
Another accident involving two vehicles followed the first collision.
At the start of the evening, it was still impossible to know whether the truck driver was among those injured or dead.
“What we can say is that there are people who have died, we do not confirm the number and we do not confirm who either at the moment. The victims have not yet been identified,” says Officer Beshara.
For its part, the QMI agency reported three dead and four injured, including a pregnant woman.
There are road works in the area but it is not yet known whether the configuration of the road played a role in the tragedy.
“It’s too early to say, it’s the investigation that will tell us what exactly happened, if that was the cause,” specifies the SPL spokesperson.
The investigation is expected to continue throughout the evening. Police recommend avoiding the area.
