The man who opened fire in 2021 towards a Sûreté du Québec police officer, injuring the latter and destroying his career, will spend a total of 15 years in the shadows to reflect on his crime.

Superior Court Judge Louis Dionne pronounced the sentence Thursday at the Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce courthouse, two weeks after a jury found Marco Rodrigue guilty of attempted murder.
On the morning of August 18, 2021, what was intended to be a simple routine intervention on Highway 73 in Beauce turned into a real nightmare for officer Catherine Giroux.

The 57-year-old man from Saint-Zacharie fired twice at his patrol car, injuring one hand, the shoulder and the face of the person who had just intercepted him for speeding while he was driving. at 134 km/h in his car which was no longer registered.
A manhunt followed and two loaded rifles were eventually found on the passenger side bench of his vehicle.

Arrested a few hours later, the defendant gave a speech marked with aversion to authority and the government during his interrogation.
«Elle [la policière] had his share of responsibility. I would not have acted in the same way if you had not tried to steal from me,” the accused then declared.

Photos filed as evidence of the trajectory of one of the projectiles which passed through the bottom of the headrest demonstrated to what extent the policewoman had a narrow escape.
Without her reflex to lean to the left, she would have received the bullet “right in the face”, she raised a few days ago during observations on the sentence.

Injured in the hand, shoulder and face, the victim testified to the numerous physical and psychological after-effects she suffered.
The one who “loved” her job had to give up the patrol which was her whole “life”.
Marco Rodrigue was found guilty of possessing weapons for dangerous purposes and occupying a vehicle containing firearms.
In this case, the ministry requested up to 18 years of detention, compared to nine on the defense side.
Due to pre-trial detention since his arrest, Rodrigue has already served the equivalent of almost five years of the sentence imposed.
