Russia says it has shot down several British-made Storm Shadow missiles, six HIMARS rockets and 67 drones, while Ukraine says Russia launched its first intercontinental ballistic missile since the conflict began, targeting Dnipro.

Russian Defense Ministry says its air defense systems shot down several British-made Storm Shadow missiles – over Crimea and in another unspecified area -, as well as six HIMARS rockets and 67 drones.

This is the first time that Kyiv has used these missiles on Russian territory.

Furthermore, Ukraine asserts that Russia launched, also for the first time, an intercontinental ballistic missile targeting the city of Dnipro during the night from Wednesday to Thursday. The weapon, however, was not equipped with a nuclear warhead.

The United States authorized the use of long-range missiles

Last Sunday, outgoing US President Joe Biden authorized Ukraine to use long-range missiles supplied by the United Statesa decision taken in response to the deployment of North Korean troops alongside Russian forces in the Kursk region.

Shortly after the United States lifted restrictions, Ukraine fired several ATACMS missiles on the Bryansk region, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed.

Finally, the Kremlin announced Thursday that it wanted to “maximum d’efforts” to avoid nuclear warafter a revision of Russian military doctrine signed Tuesday by President Vladimir Putin.

This lowers the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons by the Kremlin, now considering any attack by a nation supported by a nuclear power as a joint attack against Russia.
