Jonathan David signed for in 2020, and has since made his mark with Les Dogues with 97 goals scored. Often cited as leaving, the ex-Gant player is however reaching the end of his contract next June and is still in Lille.

Should we expect to see Jonathan David (24 years old) leave LOSC this winter? Logic would indeed dictate that the northern management would part ways with their Canadian striker, who will be free next June. It would be a big loss for Lille, because David is valued at… 45 million euros.

An astonishing situation, because for several seasons Jonathan David has been mentioned almost everywhere during each transfer window, without ever leaving Lille. This season, he is performing again, with 13 goals in 19 matches in all competitions. The Canadian has scored 97 goals for LOSC since signing from La Gantoise in 2020, against 27 million euros.

There are, in reality, only two valid options for Lille: part with them this winter – but which club would spend a fortune on a free player 6 months later? – or succeed in convincing Jonathan David to extend. “Of course Jonathan already has an offer to extend his contract,” says Olivier Létang, president of LOSC, at the microphone of RMC Sport.

“The ball is in his court. But he will not leave in January,” assures Létang, who therefore closes the door to this possibility. “He will stay, because he is an important player and we have objectives. When you have a player who scores 20 to 25 goals per season, qualifying for the Champions League at the end of the season balances a transfer which does not is not done.”

It remains to be seen whether David will extend his contract, even if it means leaving LOSC at the end of the season for an amount largely revised upwards compared to this winter.
