Coming sixth in the 2024 Ballon d'Or ranking given to Rodri, Kylian Mbappé was acclaimed by most of the South American jurors. The Argentine journalist did not include it in his top 10.
Author of 52 goals in all competitions last season (which earned him the chance to share the Gerd Müller Trophy with Harry Kane), Kylian Mbappé failed to reach sixth place in the 2024 Ballon d'Or rankings, far behind the first two Rodri and Vinicius Jr and ahead of Jude Bellingham, Dani Carvajal and Erling Haaland. The French phenomenon piled up the goals but did not allow PSG to reach the final of the Champions League and, victim of a broken nose, did not shine at the Euro with the Blues.
Mbappé failed a few points behind Haaland, the Manchester City scorer. The fault in particular of the vote of the Argentine journalist requested by France Footballwho did not include the name of the captain of the France team in his top 10. Ezequiel Fernandez Moores, from The Nationis one of the two jurors to place Toni Kroos in the lead (with the Ecuadorian voter). He then chose, in order, Rodri, Vincius, Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham, Lautaro Martinez, Erling Haaland, Florian Wirtz, Lamine Yamal and Dani Carvajal.
Mbappé 2nd for Bolivia and Paraguay
Argentina has obviously had a problem with Mbappé since the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar. The prodigy from Bondy brought the two teams to 2-2 with a double and scored a third goal in overtime, before penalties in favor of Lionel Messi and his gang. The Albiceleste players then directly attacked the French number 10 during their celebrations, in the locker room and in public. And these same 2022 world champions sang a racist chant against Mbappé, in their bus, after their coronation at the 2023 Copa América.
Seven of the ten South American journalists who make up the jury of the Ballon
d’Or quoted Kylian Mbappé. The one who now plays for Real Madrid was even placed second by voters in Bolivia and Paraguay! Journalists from Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador gave him 4th place. Only the Uruguayan and the Venezuelan did like the Argentinian by “forgetting” Mbappé.
