It was 3 a.m. on June 6 when Ciprian Guilescu rang the doorbell of some people spending an evening with friends, not far from 19, rue de Strasbourg. Covered in blood, the thirty-year-old told them that he had committed a murder and led them to the scene of his crime. The witnesses then discovered the naked body of a 60-year-old woman, in a fetal position, her face swollen. Blood spatter covered some of the furniture and walls of the bedroom upstairs. They then called 17. Ciprian Guilescu posted a photo of the victim’s body on his Facebook account. Drunk, he was arrested on the spot, without incident and without saying a word.

Raped and beaten

Taken to hospital for an examination, he appears to be in control, only slightly intoxicated, according to the tests. In police custody, Ciprian Guilescu calmly confesses to his crimes but it is “difficult to establish a chronology of what he says,” explains an investigator at the bar.

The man allegedly hit the victim because she refused his sexual advances. He told investigators that he hated women. According to his statement, he explained that the sixty-year-old, awakened several times by water splashing in her face, was raped and then beaten more than twenty times, until she died. The accused and the victim did not know each other, or not really… They lived 10 numbers from each other. The day before, he had helped her carry her groceries to her apartment. They had coffee, had a discussion.

Incoherent remarks

“The problems came because I drank and took medication,” the accused tried to explain, translated by an interpreter. In court, he made some incoherent statements. “Something inside me pushed me to go see this person.” Ciprian Guilescu explained that he went upstairs to go to the bathroom, even though no document in the case file mentions a bathroom upstairs in the victim’s home. “I saw a black shadow in the shape of a bird and what happened happened,” he said, his eyes haggard. “I destroyed my freedom and killed someone who didn’t deserve it. I accept the sentence that will be decided.”

Ciprian Guilescu tried on several occasions to attempt his life, before and after the events. The different psychiatric analyzes do not reach the same conclusions as to his responsibility at the time the crimes were committed. Several experts will be invited to testify at the bar on Monday July 1.

In prison since June 7, 2021, Ciprian Guilescu risks life imprisonment. He has no criminal record in France or Romania.
